The Hip Circle Magazine
Editorial Guidelines
Article length:
Max 15000 characters
Content:
If you would like to share an article/story with The Hip
Circle, help us maintain the "journalistic,"
culturally-relevant, uncompromising nature of our content:
* If you are writing about local issues or events, remember
to make your content relevant to readers anywhere in the US
and abroad: Connect the facts to current bellydance/cultural
trends, analyze and evaluate, offer critical, objective commentary,
offer your own unique view.
* If you are writing about your personal experiences or if
your story is of personal nature, know that your generosity
in sharing is greatly appreciated by our readers; we all treasure
candid, true, unadorned portrayals of life events to which
we can relate as artists, members of society and human beings.
We want to learn from you. Don't hold back.
* If you are creating an
interview, remember that The Hip Circle's focus is always
on individual dancers' views/opinions and on their creative
evolution, on exploring the ways we handle life as artists,
and the way our individual lives reflect the trends happening
on a larger cultural/dance/bellydance scene. Focus on artists'
opinions and views, not on biographical facts or achievements.
"Biographical facts" are fine if they are "part
of the story," if they illustrate the interviewee's artistic
or philosophical evolution. Help us keep our interviews as
far as possible from promotional copy or biography.
* Product reviews: Critical
view/opinion/evaluation/comparison are must-have ingredients
for a review. It is essential to keep reviews away from a
promotional or 'advertising' tone. There are pluses and minuses
in every product: We need to hear about both!
